The dungeon at Ussé was known as the Knights’ Dungeon, it was so called because of its unusual octagonal shape and the murder holes found at each angle. As you climb the steps the full beauty of the wooden framework is revealed.

But the real significance of this dungeon is that it plays a pivotal role in the tale of Sleeping Beauty. It’s here, in the sentry walk, that some of the most memorable scenes of the story are enacted. You can, of course, see the evil fairy Carabosse, Prince Charming and Princess Aurora’s three kind fairy godmothers.
